Contour just introduced their ContourGPS, which is a sports video camera that incorporates real-time GPS data. Basically, it is the ContourHD with a GPS chipset built into the unit. The GPS receiver tracks and captures your location, speed, and elevation while recording in 1080 HD. Contour provides a Storyteller application to download the videos from the camera to the local computer, where you can watch your ride via an interactive map and video player who allows you to see and control the action. They are also launching a location-based video community that allows users to share their stories, track adventures and discover new places. Retail is $350.
The ContourGPS has a larger, more positive and robust recording on/off slider, which really felt nice when I was working at its action.
The rear door of the camera has a locking closure, which is a nice addition, especially since I had a problem with the door staying completely shut on the ContourHD. I can't wait to test out the ContourGPS, but it is going to be quite a while due to the high demand.
They have also added a brand new Handlebar clamp (for any of the models), that can reside on the oversized section of the bars by the stem, which is a great functional feature, and a desired item.
This was the first time I got to play with the Waterproof Case. It was easy to open and insert a camera, and the seals all seemed very tight, and in addition it had locks for the TRails system. One thing I noticed is that the front lens area was flat, which is a great feature for dirty and muddy use, since the normal lens tended to gather debris. Retail $40
